ADVANCED LASER SAFETY
Two or three-day on-site courses

These comprehensive training programmes include all of the material covered by our shorter courses, but in addition provide in-depth tuition on the quantitative aspects of laser safety.

The courses are intended for those (including Laser Safety Officers, Laser Protection Advisers and product design engineers) who have an appropriate technical background and who need to undertake detailed safety assessments or equipment classification using the emission and exposure limits (AELs and MPEs) published in the safety standards.

Both the two and three-day courses have similar content, but the three-day course includes workshop sessions to give participants the opportunity for undertaking safety calculations and for gaining experience in performing hazard assessments.

As well as summary Notes, the cost of these advanced courses includes one copy of the comprehensive 450-page reference book Laser Safety by Henderson & Schulmeister.

These advanced training courses cover the following topics:

• review of lasers and the characteristics of laser emission
• detailed discussion of laser hazards to the eyes and skin
• other hazards of laser equipment
• the legislative framework of laser safety
• laser safety standards and published guidelines
• organisational issues and safety responsibilities
• exposure limits for the eyes and the skin (MPEs)
• laser hazard classification and laser emission limits (AELs)
• detailed discussion, with worked examples, of hazard evaluation, product classification, hazard distance (NOHD), etc.
• risk assessment in laser safety
• engineering controls and equipment design issues
• administrative and procedural controls
• personal protection, including a detailed discussion of eye protection
• laser safety management

The cost of this on-site training is £1950 plus VAT* for the two-day Advanced Course, or £2800 plus VAT* for the three-day Advanced Course including Workshops.

*There will be an additional charge to cover the expenses involved in visiting your premises. This will be based on the mileage from our office in Cambridge and on any necessary overnight accommodation. We will be happy to provide you with a firm quotation, inclusive of all expenses, for presenting this on-site course.

The cost covers the preparation of the course (which can be adapted to suit your particular laser application), the supply of course notes (in both printed form and on CD), one copy of the Laser Safety book, course certificates (if required) and our attendance on-site to deliver this training.

We recommend that for maximum effectiveness the course be limited to no more than ten people. Where numbers exceed ten we reserve the right to charge an additional fee to cover the extra numbers and the additional material supplied. Please ask us to quote.
